Liebster Blog Awards

Hi guys!
I know it's been a while since my last post, but school, sports, volunteer work, and academic registrations have been keeping me rather busy these days.

Anyway, I was nominated by the amazing Bec to participate in the Liebster Blog Awards. Thank you so much for the nomination and I hope you don't mind that this post took so long.

Rules
1. Thank the person who nominated you and link their blog.
2. Answer the questions given by the nominator.
3. Nominate some other bloggers who have less than 200 followers and link them. (It's totally okay if they have more!)
4. Notify the bloggers you've nominated.
5. Create 11 new questions for your nominees to answer. (Have fun!)

Answers (:
1. What's your favorite item of clothing you own?
~ Probably my chunky knit cardigan(s) just because they're warm and stylish (or at least according to me). This was kind of a hard question, because I have a lot of clothes, but I guess I wear cardigans the most.

2. If you could travel anywhere in the world where would it be? Why?
~I really want to travel to Rome because of all the amazing artworks from throughout history. Currently I'm taking a class where we learn about all of these art works, and I am dying to see them in person. Also the food there sounds amazing!
3. Who's your blogging inspiration?
~ I am extremely inspired by Joy from Oh Joy, (totally stalking her on instagram) and the lovely blogs : abeautifulmess, apairandaspare, ispydiy. There are many more, but I was mostly inspired by pinterest because I am online all the time and I love all the crafts they DIY. All of these amazing crafting bloggers are out of my league (at the moment) and they truly inspire me to be more creative and make more art.
4. If you could only use one makeup product for the rest of your life, what would it be?
~ BB cream, since it usually has SPF for sun protection and keeps you face all moisturized.
5. What your favourite post you've made so far?
~My marble planter DIY post, first of all because it was super fun to make, and second of all I think it is my most "famous" post. Especially on pinterest, I was surprised by the positive response (:
6. Where do you see yourself (and your blog) in a year?
~ I'm hoping that I will be able to post more consistently and increase my quality in images, content, and also viewers.
7. Do you prefer instagram or tumblr?
~INSTAGRAM. Mainly because the stuff I put on there is my own actual content, to me tumblr is more like an unorganized pinterest and I just keep on reblogging. That doesn't mean that I'm ever going to stop using both though. Oh yeah, also instagram is more interactive with followers and you feel like you're learning about real people and their creativity.
8. What's your all time favorite movie?
~ Wow this is hard. At the moment my favorite movie is probably Big Hero 6. Its a super cute, funny, sad, dramatic, amazing movie that pulls at all your emotions. Definitely go see it if you haven't already!
9. What's your favorite photo you've ever taken?
~ I have a few from my trip to New York a  long time ago. I think I was 9 years old when I took these pictures, but if you're in New York, every picture is photogenic, and I feel like this was the moment when I started being "artsy"  I remember my mom telling me not to just take pictures of just buildings and include people ( I didn't listen) otherwise, she said it would be like a post card.
10. What is the story behind your blog name?
~ Hahhaha, so I was taking a supplementary class during my summer vacation (blame my parents) to help me improve my score on the SAT ( a standardized test) and I got EXTREMELY bored. I always had thoughts of creating a diy crafting blog, so I just started doodling in my notebook. I guess the fact that I was in a sad college building at the age of 15 made me feel like a "mastermind" and I wanted to be punny with the word craft. So there you have it: The Crafteen Mastermind!
11. What are you excited for in the coming months?
~I cannot wait until spring break...... hmmm ...or maybe until the end of the school year? I have so many tests and more registration essays to look forward to so wish me luck. But I guess I am also excited for a singing competition I am participating in with my sister, and also some sports events.

Welcome to the workspace

Hi guys!

Today’s post is a little different than my usual DIY projects. I'll be giving you guys a miniature tour of my workspace to share a little bit more about myself and what I do to get inspiration.
In the back of my mind I have always thought about posting a room or office tour. Finally I was inspired by WeWork –a coworking office –to create this post to show off my workspace.
First here is a picture of the ugly truth: making things means making messes. Just look at the desk clutter!
Afterwards, I cleaned my desk. Whenever I do this I like to keep things more minimal because I get distracted easily.

All my crafts supplies goes into this drawer or onto this drawer I should say. I put the things I use more frequently on top. ( I have a lot of notebooks  for some reason because I can't seem to stop myself from buying notebooks that are smaller than normal sized notebooks. )
After clearing my desk, I decided to make some changes and rearranged the room a bit. I turned my work corner into a reading/inspiration corner. (I just swapped my desk place with my chair) Behind my book stand are two unused canvases, perhaps they will become great masterpieces someday (:
Also these DIY wall art projects will be up in the following weeks and I will add links when the posts are uploaded.
Hope you guys enjoyed this tiny journey around the workspace!

What's on the wall?

These past few days, I have been extremely busy prepping for exams and drowning in a sea of endless homework.  However, last week I was digging through some old “folders of my past” and  found some old photos from a photography class I took last year. And then I thought to myself, why not start a photo wall?
There is obviously room for improvement, and I'm hoping to find more works of art to fill in the gaps.Hope you guys enjoy this post showing the beginning stages of my photo/art inspiration wall!

I got this cool collage-type picture from an old Muse Magazine that I acquired from Urban Outfitters.
Also I am super excited to have accumulated some fairy lights to add nighttime lighting. Tumblr themed room here I come!

Random thoughts while looking at these pictures:
Looking back at these photos, it seems as if I had a weird fascination with telephone towers...
As you can see, sometimes, I like to play around with shadows...
See you next week!

Not a fan of glasses?

Some people just look stunning with their glasses and that led me to the belief that I too would look pretty amazing with glasses.

Expectations vs Reality on how I thought having glasses would look and feel:

When I was younger I had 20/20 vision and thought that having glasses would be a cool accessory for your face. Boy was I ever mistaken. Later on this "dream" of mine to get a pair of "cute" glasses was fulfilled... kind of.  I had gotten my first pair of glasses and to my disappointment, they were hideous. I had chosen them myself, yet I rarely wore them even when I needed them. However there was a strange sense of obligation to always carry my glasses and glasses case around wherever I went. At school I completely avoided wearing my glasses because I felt awkward and just uncomfortable with the fact that there would always be something on my face. The only times I put them on ever was when I was sitting in the backseat of my parents cars. Yeah I know what you're thinking: what a dumb kid who wasted money on a pair of glasses. I understand and totally agree, yet I had insurance that covered lenses and frames every other year so I continued to buy new glasses each year while wearing them about 6/364 days in the year. I still don't understand how other people are managing to continuously pull off looking like tumblr hipsters or smart business people with their glasses on.

For some time I have been considering getting contact lenses, but my mom completely opposed this option because she thought I was too young and that contacts could be dangerous to my eye health. Of course I completely disagreed becaus I was about 14 years old at the time and a bunch of classmates and friends of mine already had contacts while I was going around glasses free, but practically blind. As years progressed, my vision worsened to the point that my grades started to suffer. (I am an over achiever so suffering grades would mean receiving an A- instead of all perfect A's). My parents are super strict in regards to grades and academics and after a tearful (and tantrum-like) complaint on the effects of my "blindness" in school and everyday life, they finally allowed me to get contact lenses.
oh yes, the day has come
Today I went to the doctors and got my first gel like contact placed on my eyeball. I must say that having a doctor put it in my eye was very painful. I just don't feel comfortable with anyone sticking their fingers or any foreign object in my eye. Hopefully this is  normal because I'm assuming no one likes having their eyes touched by others. Afterwards I learned how to take out and put on the lenses and it wasn't as painstakingly painful as I thought it would be. The doctor or contact trainer lady even said I had been the fastest person all year to take out and put in my contacts for the first time. I guess I'm comfortable with placing my own fingers in my eye? *****(Side Story, scroll down to the last paragraph to read).

I chose to go with the daily disposable contacts rather than the more permanent one because there is less maintenance involved. I know daily disposables are more expensive in the long run, but I feel its worth it since I am not at all the type of person who is responsible and will wake up early in the morning to clean my lenses. Also there is a reduced risk of getting an eye infection with everyday disposable lenses. My doctor also recommended daily contacts instead of the more permanent option becaus people who have only just started to wear contacts should first start getting used to wearing contacts until they get older and more responsible Ipin order to fully care for the products.

This was a pretty long post documenting my day and a life changing moment for me. I didn't really have time to edit because it wanted post this on the day it happened so If there are any terrible grammar mistakes, I apologize.

****Okay time for the 100% true side story.
When  I was around the tender and naive age of 5, I was in the bathroom with my older cousin when  I witnessed her sticking her finger in her eyes to pull out a small bowl-shaped clear object. I asked her what it was and she tole me "CONTACTS". After that I believed that everyone had contacts and tried to take out my own contacts. I wasn't very squeamish so I just went ahead and gently attacked my eye with my fingers. Nothing ever came out so I thought it was forever stuck in my eye so I just have up. It wasn't until years later that I finally learned about contacts and how wrong I was about practically everything. Maybe this early eyeball touching has made putting contacts in my eyes easier? Who knows, maybe the doctors were lying when they said I was quick at putting in my contacts.

Hope you guys aren't going blind!
