Harvard Dorm Tour & QUICK DIY

This summer I have been a part of the Harvard's Residential Summer School Program for high school students. Basically I traveled across America from Washington State to Boston, but there are a bunch of amazing and friendly people that I have encountered in this program which is really great. For example, I have a roommate from Italy and China. Also I have met great students from Columbia, South Korea, Poland, Germany, Indonesia, and many more. The best thing about doing summer programs, I personally think is that you no one really knows anyone else, and everyone is super friendly and open.
I know I have been inactive for a while, but I will continue to post weekly in the Hope this gives you guys a taste of how the freshman door of Harvard are like.

BUT FIRST: The quick DIY wall decor
literally all you need is poster putty and a bunch of coins.
Next, all you have to do is stick some putty on the back of a coin and stick it on the wall. It is actually really sturdy and if you ever need money for laundry, you know you have at least some spare change to fund yourself.

desk area, with the most random wall decor: coins stuck with poster putty
the bed situation, it feels so empty and I might get some photos to decorate soon
the grid print blanket was from target, and although I love it, I kind of regret using up so much space in my luggage.

you can actually stick a lot of random things with poster gum... this is what my roommate did when I wasn't looking . But I guess it also kind of looks like cool collage art?
its not that grand, but it's pretty comfy and here's another angle for you to enjoy (:
My desk which is usually unorganized, but somewhat clean in this image.
closet, and what few hangers I have

Hope everyone's summers are going well, and if it isn't summer where you are living, hope you are still enjoying some fun times with friends!

DIY: Embroidered Quote T-shirt

Hello there,

Hope you guys are ready to make something. Once again I have been inspired by pinterest, tumblr, etsy, instagram, and etc. to create a DIY project.
Today I'll be showing you how I embroidered this t-shirt, which I later gave to a friend as a birthday present.
The best part about embroidering is that once you know how to pull a needle through fabric there is no limit to what quote you can put on your shirt.
Overall, embroidering quotes is super simple and easy, and I will definitely be creating more shirts with quotes for myself in the near future.
Here are the things you will be needing:
  • Plain T-shirt
  • Black embroidery thread
  • embroidery needle
  • Washable pen or marker
* to be honest I used a regular needle and thread, but had to make the stitches thicker.

Step 1. Place the embroidery hoop where you will be putting your quote.

Step 2. Find a quote to use, and with a washable pen or marker to write down the quote as a guide.
*It will make it easier for you to follow along with a needle if you use mostly straight lines
Step 3. Embroider based on your guide.

When you are finished, just remove your hoop, wash your shirt, and you are ready to put it on or give it a friend.
Hope you guys enjoyed this post and try out this simple DIY.
Keep on crafting!

2 Quick Wall Decor DIYs

Hello friends and creative strangers!
Last week , I showed you guys the basics of my workspace and today I'll be showing you how I made the DIY wall art projects I promised a the end of that post.
These 2 wall décor ideas are extremely easy to recreate. Both can take less than ten minutes to create, or you can add on and make larger versions of each. Lets get started!
For the first DIY Wall Art project, all you really need is some tape and scissors.

-Here I used electric tape at first, but then ran out so I found some black duct tape that I cut to be the same width.
-A pencil for sketching is optional

Steps:
1. (Optional) go online, find some geometric design you want to recreate and sketch it out on your wall.
2. Start taping and cutting to create a complex geometric design, or create a picture, its your wall and your choice!

I just have some shots of the first few pieces of tape I laid out. For the rest, I just randomly created a geometric shape by starting and ending at different angles and different lengths. You are free to do whatever you want.
The best thing about this DIY, is that you can peel it right off your wall or make edits if you don't like the way it looks.

Now onto the second project:
Basically this is a huge collage board for inspirations or extra clippings you have from magazines. You can do anything as long as it makes you happy and you feel some sort of satisfaction with your end result.

Materials:
-magazines
-pictures
-quotes you like
-memorable tickets, or flat items
-a big frame or poster board
-glue
-scissors (they're your new best friend)

Steps:
1. grab a bunch of fun pics, and cut out your favorite pieces
2. glue it all down to a piece of poster board or a poster frame
3. display it
4.(optional, but highly encouraged) have a dance party by yourself, because congrats, you just made something cool

lets all pretend you didn't notice I reused this image

Hope you found some quick inspiration!
keep on crafting (and napping)

Diy Crochet Monogram Pillow

Hey guys, sorry for the lateness of this post, but school is slowly killing me as I do homework and study for finals. Still, I hope you enjoy the DIY project I have for you this fine Crafternoon!

If you don't know already, I am obsessed with pinterest (you can follow me here) and after seeing this crafty little pin on a DIY cactus pillow, I saw the crochet letter A pillow and decided to make one myself.
you can check out the cactus pillow Diy here

Here are the materials you will be needing:
  • yarn
  • crochet needle
  • scissors
  • stuffing
Step 1.  chain stitch 13. Create  7 rows of double crochets with 13 double crochets in each row.

Step 2. chain stitch 13 stitches for the middle of the A.

Step 3 chain stitch 13 more stitches.

Step 4. Create another 7 rows of 13 double crochets. When you are done, it will create the bottom portion of the A. When you are done with this step, cut off the yarn and start at the top right hand corner of where the image is below.

Step 5. Create 7 rows of double crochets along the top part of the A. After each row, skip the first chain stitch on the next row so that you are decreasing by 2 stitches each row.
Step 6. (sorry if this next instruction sucks) Finish crocheting the A shape.
Step 7. Repeat steps 1-6 so that you will have 2 identical crocheted A's.
Step 8. double crochet four rows around the circumference of one A, then single stitch to connect the two pieces together, but leave about a three inch opening for stuffing.
Step 9 . flip the hollow pillow inside out so that there is a cleaner exterior and add stuffing inside the pillow
step 10. seal your pillow by filling in the last bits of single crocheting.

There you have it. An A crochet monogram pillow.
If you have any questions about some confusing directions or you want to figure out how to make other letters, please feel free to comment below or email me. I will usually reply in two days or sooner.
Hope you guys have fun with your new pillows (:

Say goodbye to 2014 foverever (DIY using last year's magazines/calendars/etc.)

Hey there! It's about time you started getting rid o those old calendars of 2014, 2013, 2012, 20122, 2010----5000BCE and beyond. Why not use them as bunting triangles?

Already it's been over a week since 2015 began and 2014 ended, but I'm sure you have a bunch of old calendars or magazines lying around from last year or even from the year before. Or hey, maybe you're on top of things and are super organized. Either ways it's always fun to bunt ! (someone should print this on a Tshirt)

This is a very simple, cliché DIY project that is just basic bunting. However I thought it would be a nice way to recycle my 2014 calendar. (*Actually the calendar I'm using in this project is from about four years ago, but I'm obsessed with the pictures).
Grab a handful of old calendars and/or magazines and let's get started!

What you will need:

  • old calendars/magazine/anything with nice images
  • scissors
  • pencil
  • glue
  • twine/string/ribbon
step 1. Fold paper in half and cut out triangles. You can create a one just for tracing to create more exact and equal triangles. Keep doing this until  you are satisfied, or make 12 triangles if you really want to listen to some directions.

You should end up with a bunch of triangles

Step 2. Cut the twine/string/ribbon according to the length you want your bunting to be.

Step 3.  Space evenly on string and glue thee two sides of the triangles together.

Anyways it's out with the old and in with the new(ish)!

Here is the finished product in a warmer lit room.

Hope you got some inspiration for the new(ish) year!
Until next week

Holiday gift DIY: Lace Trimmed Socks

I am super excited to share this small DIY project I recently made. I've been procrastinating on posting lately, but hopefully  you'll enjoy this week's long promised DIY post!
(Here I am "modeling" the socks I decorated. )
Christmas is just around the corner and if you're the type of person who doesn't know what to get your friends, try dressing up some socks that will keep them warm this winter. Fuzzy socks are a staple item during the holidays. Secretly, you know you can never have enough pairs of warm socks. Why not try something a little more fun, frilly this year?
Today I will be showing you guys how to create lace trimmed socks. It's extremely easy and as long as you know the basics of gluing stuff down, or sewing, you can ,make a pair in less than 15 minutes!
First of all I just wanted to point out that I saw a pair of lace-trimmed over the knee socks from forever21, but a single pair cost nearly $10. Instead of buying a bunch and becoming broke, I decided to DIY them myself.

Now let's get started!

Here are the materials you will need:
  • A pair of boring socks
  • Lace trim
  • Fabric glue or needle and thread (needle and thread/ sewing machine recommended)
  • Scissors
I bought this set of lace trim tape from Daiso, a Japanese Store where everything is only $1.50.

these socks were just randomly in my drawers, but I'm going to buy more different lengths to decorate

Step 1.  Measure around the circumference of your thigh, or mid calf ( wherever the top of your sock ends on your leg) leaving a small 1/4 inch extra for allowance and cut the lace trim.

DO NOT just attach the trimming around the top unless the material is stretch otherwise, your feet won't fit!

Step 2. Attach the lace onto the edges, There are 3 ways you can do this:
  • The first way is kind of complicated. Glue the trim to your sock while it is on ( this only works if you have lace tape like mine which is sticky on one side) then afterwards, take the sick of and use a sewing machine, or your hands to stitch it on.
  • The second way is to just go ahead and stitch the trimming on the mouth of the sock with the measurements made in step 1.
  • The third way is to just use fabric glue to attach, however I personally have not tried this method so I am only 88% sure it will work.

Now you have finished! Repeat this step to finish your second sock, and feel free to make a bunch for your friends. Of course you can always just make a pair for yourself (That's what I did!)

here I am watching a Korean Drama and further procrastinating my life away...

here I am finishing up my Kdrama episode (: These socks make any regular thing 1233124123x better!

See you next week, have a magical holiday break!
